Match Report

Kings College 2nd XV played the battle of the bridge  against De La Salle at home. The team got into good shape early and the structure was going well. An early penalty by Ethan Stuart put the team ahead 0-3.

Strong defence from Noah Perelini, Ryan Gordon , Kahuki Vaughn and Trent Foaafo put Kings in a strong position in the match. De La Salle hit back with a converted try making it 3-7. Trent Foaafo scored what looked to be a good try, however unfortunately it was awarded with the referee unable to see the ball grounded.

Changes were made at half time and real impact came from the bench players Loui Whata, Trent Tairoa , Fraser Hardy, Christian Pese, Jason Honor and Lawrence Ualesi. As the game went on the lineout was used to great effect to roll 20-30 metres at times and the team were unlucky not to be awarded a plenty try when it appeared that the opposition had deliberately taken the maul to ground. After a sweeping move Piki Mihinui scored a great team try in the corner. This left the score at 8-7 in favour of Kings College.

The team continued to build good phase play and with only minutes to go a penalty to Kings was converted by Ethan Stuart to extend the lead to 11-7. Unfortunately a lack of concentration by the boys in the dying seconds of the match led to De La Salle turning over the ball and scoring under the posts to take the game 14-11.

For a young team this was a disappointing loss, but its important that the boys learn to concentrate for the whole 70 minutes so that they can close out tight matches.
