First XI Football record another double figure win!

1st XI Football vs Takapuna Grammar School

On another beautiful Auckland winter’s afternoon, the 1st XI Football team travelled north to Takapuna to play a team which had last defeated us in the semi-finals at the 2017 end of season Malcolm Cowie Tournament.

The early passages of play and territory saw Takapuna have the ascendancy but they didn’t really threaten the King’s goal. In the 10th minute from a King’s foray forward a wide free-kick was earned on the right side and delivered into the near post where Finn Rathbone converted on target for King’s to take the lead.  Kaisei Woodhams who was playing in the attack midfield role, then got into his goal scoring habit at the 23rd minute with a nice low drive into the bottom corner before Jack Williams added a third goal in the 33rd minute.  Two further goals were added before halftime by Noel Marange, playing as the central striker, for King’s to lead 5-0 at the break.

Another goal by Woodhams immediately after halftime followed by his third in the 53rd minute put the result to bed and took any remaining resistance out of the Takapuna team’s play.  A further three goals were added by the end, with F Havrda scoring from centrally inside the penalty box and Jacod Everett scored twice, after cutting in from the right side.  Unfortunately, the target of a clean sheet was not kept as Takapuna scored off a long strike which the King’s goalkeeper fumbled and bundled across the goal-line with 10 minutes still to play.

The 10-1 result not only meant King’s stayed in a clear first position on the points table, but enhanced its goal difference at the halfway point of the season.
