Cricket 1st XI start the new competition with a win Posted on October 28, 2018 (November 4, 2018) by jimpotts King’s 1st XI started the new Term 4 Competition against Sacred Heart College. With several senior players missing (due to exam commitments and injury) it was a good opportunity for some younger players to step up. King’s bowled first against Sacred Heart College who accumulated 187 runs in the 50 overs. (Tom Simmonds 1-38; Muhammad Abbas 2-45; Thorn Parkes 1-27; Kavi Minhas 1-6) Hugo Hill was outstanding with the ball and only conceded a miserly 14 runs in his 10 overs. In reply King’s started out solidly enough. Dimithri Gallage (31) was looking fluent on his way to a significant score before a rush of blood saw him throw away his wicket. At 60-2, the skipper Thorn Parkes (21) joined Tom Simmonds (76 not out) and constructed a 42 run partnership before the former was dismissed. King’s were seemingly cruising to a comfortable victory until a flurry of wickets created a bit of panic in the ranks. Soon 112-3 became 118-5 and Sacred Heart tightened the noose. Cory Dickson, showed great tenacity to weather the storm and build a valuable, match-winning partnership of 45 runs with Simmonds. Cory was out with the total still some 20 runs short of the target but Kavi Minas, on debut put in a decent all-round performance to finish on 12 not out with 4 ½ overs to spare. Next week the 1st XI travel to MAGS.
