1st XI Cricket – Batting masterclass by Dimithri Gallage propels King’s to a huge total

On Saturday 10th November King’s recored a convincing 84 run win against Rosmini College, heralded by sublime batting by Dimithri Gallage and three wickets to Muhammad Abbas.

King’s batted after losing the toss. The opening pair of Nathan Robinson and Tom Simmonds continued their good form reaching 66 without loss at drinks. They were still together in the 21st over having accumulated 89 runs (RR 4.14). With the century partnership beckoning they were both lured into reckless shots and the scoreboard read 92/2 in the 24th over, with Robinson registering his second half-century on the trot. Dimithri Gallage and the skipper Thorn Parkes constructed a 95 run partnership, taking the game into the 43rd over when Parkes departed for 47 (63 balls). Meanwhile Gallage was in total control and he had the big hitting Hayden Dickson for company. They both accelerated in clinical fashion with Gallage in sight of a century when they ran out of overs.

By the 6th over, Muhammad Abbas had cleaned out the Rosmini top order. At 102/5 in the 23rd over, Rosmini were in tatters and should have succumbed soon after but King’s failed to capitalise. The visitors were harbouring faint hopes in spite of a burgeoning asking rate until the last wicket fell in the 44th over. The spin trio of Cory Dickson, Kavi Minhas and Hugo Hill applied the strangle hold and together finished with 4/69 in 26 overs with Hill claiming 3 for 22 off his full quota. Robinson, deputising for the injured William Paranthoiene was solid behind the stumps whilst being involved in two dismissals.
