King’s 1st XI cruise to comfortable victory against Sacred Heart

Experienced trio dominate Sacred Heart bowlers

Saturday, 9 February 2019

King’s College 281/3 in 50 overs

Sacred Heart 179 all out in 46.2 overs

Experience came to the fore as Nathan Robinson, Dimithri Gallage and Cory Dickson were instrumental in securing King’s a convincing 102 run victory over Sacred Heart in this away fixture. Batting first, after Dickson called correctly, King’s went about the task with purpose. The opening pair of Kavi Minhas and Robinson put on 69 runs before Minhas was dismissed in the 14th over. Robinson was in dazzling form and in the company of Gallage these two took the score to 131 in the 28th over when the former was trapped in front. Gallage then shifted into overdrive and in the company of Dickson added an unbeaten 131 runs to reach an imposing 281/3 in 50 overs. The skipper achieved his maiden half-century in fine style (61 off 62 balls). After a slew of half-centuries last season, Gallage was within sight of his maiden century but ran out of time and energy, in tough conditions, to fall 6 runs adrift of what would have been a memorable achievement.

Sacred Heart set about the chase in confident style but when the in-form and devastating Declan Viljoen was bowled by Dickson in the 24th over with the hosts on 105/4 one could sense that they had lost any hope of victory. Dickson led from the front and complemented his half-century with 3 important wickets, thereby playing a major role in the outcome of this match. Hugo Hill was inspired by Dickson’s exploits at the other end and he too bowled with purpose to claim 2 wickets in his 10 overs. The young pace attack had to graft to have any influence in this match and are on a major learning curve in this competition. Louis Anderson, Charles Cleal and Seb McDonald (on debut) each picked up a wicket but will face sterner tests in the upcoming weeks.
