Girls Futsal team finish 4th at the Nationals

Congratulations to our Girls Futsal team who placed a very respectable 4th overall at the Futsal Nationals held in Wellington.

Team manager Ms Karen Thompson writes:

Most of the girls had not played Futsal until Monday and two of our senior players were unavailable so to get to the Semi Finals of the National Tournament  unbeaten is a significant achievement.  Coach Paul Marshall is to be commended in moulding these rough diamonds into a competitive team.

The Girls played three games on the first day and then had to back up again for day two and three further matches.  The girls were stiff and tired at the outset but rose to the challenge in a hard fought and physical game against New Plymouth Girls High school.  Grace Freeman was attacking and solid as always and Jemima Ferrier was the well deserved MVP.

Game 2 against Hillcrest was nail biting!  Hillcrest are a well seasoned team playing in a regular league. It was a hugely physical game but we rose to the challenge with some excellent saves by Maia Adams and good defensive play by Winter Brown.  The girls were raw and gutsy and gave it all they had.

Game 3: With a 10 minute turnaround between games there wasn’t much left in the tank on both sides.  Coach Paul Marshall gave an opportunity to all the girls on the bench to have a good run.

Congratulations to all of the Girls who took part.
